Match Report: India 2-0 Maldives

India's dominant performance against the Maldives resulted in a 2-0 victory for Stephen Constantine's team. Two first-half goals from Nikhil Poojary and the most valuable player of the match, Manvir Singh, ensured India finished on top of Group B.

Speaking about his side's performance, Constantine stated, "It was a very difficult first half. We didn't get going in the first 20-25 minutes which is what happened in the previous match as well. We need to start quicker. But we have some really good young players coming through, and we got the goals we deserved. We could have got more goals, but 2-0 is a good result and we're happy we're going through to the semi-final".

"It was very hard for us. India had four-day rest, while we had only two days and it's difficult to recover so fast. I can't be satisfied with the performance. We conceded two easy goals. We tried to attack in the second half, I brought on more attackers, but we had to be careful of not letting in too much space for India to come through. In the end, I must accept the result. India is a fantastic team," said Maldives Head Coach Petar Segrt after the game.

The 2-0 loss for the Maldives meant they were tied with Sri Lanka on points, goal difference, goals against and head-to-head results. The nation who would go into the semi-final was decided by a coin toss, and it was the Maldives who won that battle.

"I didn't want to leave anything to luck but that is what it came down to at the end. We know we're very lucky today. We need to thank God that we're lucky," Segrt remarked after winning the coin toss.

India will now face Pakistan, while the Maldives will take on Nepal in the two semi-finals on 12th September.
