Group B Preview: Maldives vs Sri Lanka

The Maldives will face their island neighbours Sri Lanka in the second Group B match of the SAFF Suzuki Cup 2018.

The Maldives, who could only play one friendly match against Qatar in preparation for the tournament, will be fielding fresh legs against the Sri Lankans who have begun their SAFF Suzuki Cup campaign on a losing note against India.

"We're concentrating on the issues we had on the midfield and working on improving in the goalkeeping department too," said Sri Lanka Head Coach Nizam Packeer Ali, shedding light on how he would prepare for the next game after his team's 0-2 defeat against India.

The Maldives were involved in a high-scoring clash against Bhutan in the Asian Cup qualification match where they beat the fellow SAFF member 7-0.

"This is a new team and a new generation, and they are very disciplined and focused. I hope they bring this country a good footballing future," said the Maldives Head Coach Petar Segrt about his young team whose average age is 23.7 years.

"We have seen Sri Lankan football team develop a lot in the last few months, and India's youth team beat Argentina, and we have to respect that. There are no clear favourites for me in this group," he added.
