Group B Preview: India vs Maldives

The final Group B clash of the SAFF Suzuki Cup 2018 between India and the Maldives will decide who among the two island nations of the group will progress to the semi-finals along with India.

India sit on top of Group B with three points from one match, and the Maldives are currently second after their draw against Sri Lanka.

The game will also bring together the two coaches of the SAFF Suzuki Cup 2015 final. Petar Segrt was then leading Afghanistan who lost to India in the final.

"We have to respect team India; they have a strong team, very young and very good players. They'll be speedy, and it will be difficult for us to recover in the two days," said head coach of the Maldives, Petar Segrt.

Defending champions India have been labelled favourites by the fans and media alike, but Constantine believes that can't be said before any kick-off. "In this competition, we are not going to start as favourites in any of our matches. We are a young and inexperienced side, and we are playing against senior sides. We can say we have a good chance to win this game. But I don't feel we can be labelled as favourites before the kick-off," he added.

India's semi-final berth has already been confirmed, but a point would ensure they finish on top of Group B. The Maldives can go through to the semi-final with a draw and even a one-goal loss. Sri Lanka, however, would hope India would win with a margin of three goals or more, which would take them through to the semi-final.
