Group A Preview: Bangladesh vs Nepal

Group A leaders Bangladesh will be looking forward to cementing their spot in the semi-final when they take on Nepal in their final match of the SAFF Suzuki Cup 2018 group stage.

Bangladesh sit on top of Group A, with six points and need a draw at the minimum against Nepal to secure their semi-final berth. For Nepal, a win still won't ensure that they progress as their fate depends on how Pakistan - who also have three points from two games - perform against Bhutan.

Both the teams will arrive in this game on a positive note. Bangladesh earned a hard-fought victory over Pakistan with Topu Rahman giving his side the win in the 85th minute. Nepal, meanwhile, enjoyed a dominating result over Bhutan, where they managed to score four goals to help their goal-difference substantially.

"We won two games, but still we have to play our third game. We don't want to be carried away. I will let my boys celebrate, but we will start work again to secure a place in the semi-final," said Bangladesh Head Coach Jamie Day after the team's victory over Pakistan.

Three of Nepal's goals in the 4-0 win over Bhutan came from set-piece situations. While Nepal may try to replicate the similar air superiority, Bangladesh's pacy wingers who love to burst through the flanks may keep Bal Gopal Maharjan's fullbacks busy.

"Given the potential in the team, I believe our team can beat any team in the current SAFF championship. I hope we can show the same performance against the home team," said the Nepal Head Coach.

On playing Bangladesh, Nepal's Ananta Tamang, who was awarded the 'most valuable player' in the previous match said," They look tough, but we will beat them to go next round".

This will be the second time Bangladesh have faced Nepal as the SAFF Suzuki Cup hosts, following a 2003 meeting which they won 1-0.
