Sri Lanka won the second edition of the SAFF Suzuki Cup in 1995 on home soil with a victory over India in the final. They have made the semifinals on four separate occasions including in 2008 when they jointly-hosted the competition with the Maldives. They are one of the first four original members of the competition.

Placed in Group B with its Indian Ocean neighbour, the Maldives, and India, Sri Lanka will begin its campaign facing fellow 1995 finalists.

After a sabbatical of almost 20 months from football, Sri Lanka fans will be delighted that their team will arrive in Bangladesh after some match-practice. They were invited to play friendlies in Lithuania, Japan and Korea.

Coached by Nizam Packeer Ali, Sri Lanka will hope that the pre-tournament preparations come in handy in helping to upset the established order at the SAFF Suzuki Cup.
